You are invited to a Rethinking Justice Workshop on Sat., Nov. 8, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. This event is organized by a new interfaith justice ministry organization in the area and hosted here at Bethel College Mennonite Church in the fellowship hall. It promises to be a great opportunity to root ourselves in the biblical call for justice as we connect with like-minded people of faith in our area. To register, contact pastor Joanna or see your church email announcements.
Mark your calendars for our next Messy Church on Wed., Nov. 12: supper at 6 followed by all-ages Bible learning and activities.
Kansas Repair Communities, a coalition of local Mennonite churches has had several meetings and is committed to focus our first advocacy/legislative campaign on the subject of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women/People. At this point we are at work to educate ourselves on this issue, nationally and in the state of Kansas, by first reading local bestselling writer Laurie Dove’s novel, Mask of the Deer Woman, in preparation for meeting with her in November to discuss her interest in this issue. She will provide us with discussion questions. You can begin to do your own research on MMIW/P. A list of resources for study is in the gathering place. Read the novel as we all begin to learn together about the issue in preparation for taking further action together in Kansas.
Pastor Joanna’s 1887 Cafe office hours are from 8-10 a.m. on Wednesdays. Stop in and say “hi”! Joanna will be on vacation from October 20-26.
Conscientious Objection – Christian Peacemaker Registration Form
During September we had three Sunday School sessions focused on conscientious objection. Most of the resources that were shared in that class are available on this web page. We encourage all young adults (aged 16-25) to fill out and file the “Christian Peacemaker Registration Form” that is available on that page. Pastors Nathan and Joanna are happy to answer any questions and the church office can provide stamps, envelopes, and copies as needed.
Have you checked out the library recently? Thanks, in part, to some generous donations by BCMC members, the Library Committee recently processed over 30 new books. These include books commemorating the 500th Anniversary of Anabaptism as well as some fun fiction and biographical selections. You can also peruse a partial collection of our books celebrating other world religions. There’s something for everyone in our wonderful collection!
