After over forty years, the name for BCMC’s stewardship process—the Pony Express–is “out to pasture.” In July, the Church Board discerned that because the historic Pony Express played a role in the genocide of indigenous peoples throughout North America, it was time to change its name to better reflect this congregation’s priority to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God. The new name, bcmcXpress, was chosen to signal that BCMC’s budget Xpresses BCMC’s values, priorities, and commitments.
In BCMC’s bcmcXpress materials are carried from one household to another in neighborhood clusters to gather financial commitments for the coming budget year. (Materials are mailed to non-resident and inactive members).
This year, 2020, for the budget year 2021, is different because of COVID-19. Materials were mailed to non-resident and inactive members and also to BCMC members who do not have email. To those members who do have email, the narrative budget and commitment form were sent by email and they can respond by email.
The bcmcXpress usually runs two weeks from Stewardship Sunday, often the first Sunday in November, until packets are returned during worship two weeks later. However, commitments are accepted at any time and can be returned to BCMC, PO Box 364, 2600 College Ave, North Newton KS 67117 or emailed to treasurer@bethelcollegemennonitechurch.org.
